THALASSEMIA is seen in a geographic area which also includes Turkey.

In a family where both parents are THALASSEMIA CARRIERS, there is a 25% RISK that the offspring will have Thalassemia major.

The first sign of THALASSEMIA is pallor after the first three months of life. If early diagnosis does not occur, the disease shows a lethal progress.

The THALASSEMIC has to GET BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS every 20 to 25th days in addition to subcutanous DESFERAL infusions by a special pump and needle during 10 to 12 hours every night.

The THALASSEMIC FAMILY meets emotional as well as economic difficulties. In order to solve their problems, TADAD (Thalassemia Patient Parents Association) was founded in Istanbul in 1988 by Duru MALYALI.

In 1990, TADAD ADANA and in 1991, TADAD BURSA and TADAD HATAY and in 1992, TADAD IZMIR, TADAD DENIZLI branches were founded in TURKEY. TADAD FRANKFURT had founded in GERMANY 1999.

To gather and organize the thalassemics and their families. To support the needy in their economics as well as emotional problems.

To keep up with the latest developments in the field, and share the konwledge with might arise case of marriage of TWO CARRIERS.

Sending the future mothers to PRENATAL DIAGNOSIS CENTERS, thus preveting the BIRTH of THALASSEMIC CHILDREN and contributing to the development of a healthy generation in our country.

Working for the foundation of MODERN THALASSEMIA CENTERS in Istanbul and other provinces in which Thalassemia is frequent.
